Made by drying plums, prunes have a sweet, deep taste and a sticky, chewy texture. A frosted appearance is caused by naturally arising sugar and does not indicate spoilage.

Ready to eat as a snack or use in recipes. Soaking prunes in water or fruit juice will reduce cooking time. Prunes make a great addition to muffins or poultry stuffing. Serve stewed prunes on top of pancakes or waffles, or with lamb for a Middle Eastern inspired meal.
