Why do severed feet keep showing up on beaches?

I really don’t even have a clue how to preface this, so I won’t try.

PORT ANGELES, Wash. – An athletic shoe containing a human foot was found on a Washington state beach, and authorities are investigating whether it may be linked to a series of human feet found in shoes along the coast of British Columbia.

    Weird story, for sure. I think the best explanation I’ve heard is that when people drown and their bodies are not found the decomposition process leads to limbs being disconnected. The shoes that they are wearing tend to be buoyant and float away with the current, ending up on beaches.

    Sounds like a pretty reasonable explanation to me.

    Reasonable? Yes. Still a little creepy? Definitely.

    I just get this image in my head of my family walking the beach and filling up a bucket:

    I GREW UP in Port Angeles! Weird! (And I never ONCE ever found a severed foot on the beach!)
