WordPress App for iPhone!

So now there’s an WordPress app for iPhone, and it works with self-installed blogs! Awesome. Posting from it right now. My only complaints right now are a couple of weird bugs that I’m sure they’ll fix quickly, and that I can’t find a way to post a link to a long URL without going through several steps. But you can post photos from your iPhone library, or take a shot right from the app.

Very simple to use, even simpler to set up. So far, I give it 2 thumbs up!

After 29 hours with iPhone 3G

Here are my ponderings on the new iPhone 3G after becoming a victim yesterday morning. (I’m trying to focus mainly on hardware differences since the iPhone 2.0 software is pretty much the same on both generations of the phone.)

Casing:
I bought a white one. Love it. So far, the white plastic backing makes me happy. I like the feel. Feels more secure in my fingers than the aluminum.

Activation:
I’m not convinced that Apple’s servers alone were to blame. I get a gut feeling that at&t insisted on some kind of deal that complicated the process for everyone. Maybe I’m wrong.

What’s new:
To be honest, as far as USE of the iPhone goes, I’m having a tough time seeing the differences between the 3G and the 1st Gen. Yes, this one has 3G and GPS. But other than that, the software seems to function the exact same way on both phones.

It’s slightly thinner, and does sit a little more naturally in my hand.

at&t… You’re like a septic tank. Big, dirty, smelly…but necessary

Preface
Alright. Let’s just declare the obvious… YES, I bought the iPhone 3G yesterday. YES, I got up early to wait in line. YES, I do feel compelled to at least seriously consider purchasing nearly everything Apple releases.

I’ll give my official ‘review’ in another next post.

The Justification
My beautiful bride‘s Nokia met the washing machine about 3 weeks ago. It was only a couple of months old. That means her contract was too new to qualify for an upgrade. Even the cruddiest phone (which MY chic lady does NOT deserve) was going to cost me some jack. Soooo, since all iPhone owners ‘qualify’ for an upgrade to the 3G, we all know it was the logical choice…right?

The Acquisition
Friday’s my day off from West Ridge. We had a scheduled Ob appointment for Annette at 10:15am. iPhones go on sale at 8am. Nearest at&t store is in Hiram right next to the Chick-fil-A we’d be stopping at anyway on the way to the doc. Annette could meet me there before heading to Marietta.

So, alarm goes off at 5:45. I’m showered, out the door by 6:20. 15-min drive into Hiram, swing into at&t parking lot to assess the situation. There’s definitely a line… Didn’t count then, but decide to go ahead and grab some protein before finding my place at the back of the line. Grab a chicken bfast burrito from CFA. Back across the lot to get in line.

Walk up the line… Looks like I’m #33. It’s 6:45am… Worth sticking around, I figure. Plop. (more…)

The new iPhone and a poor, poor guy.

So Apple announces the next gen of iPhones will sport GPS, some cool app features (most of which even us 1st gen owners will get), a slimmer form factor, and a very attractive $199 pricetag ($299 for a 16GB version.

I feel very sad for this guy. Looks like he won with his bid of $700…26 minutes before Steve Jobs began his keynote address.

But I reckon “two4hockey” is pretty stoked. He can go buy a couple of the new ones and have enough left to pay his AT&T bill for the month.
