Things are changing, thanks to Human3rror!

So I was up way too late last night and saw a tweet come through from fellow Twitter-er Human3rror. He was offering a challenge, and I bit. Ended up paying off as I won a free copy of a great new WordPress theme called Thesis. Sweet!

So i went ahead and installed it, but haven’t done any customization just yet. I’ll start playing with it over the next week or two (probably during late night feedings after Jackson is born). And then you can let me know what you think!

Two other folks won, too! Jenny Clayville and Lane Wood

Thanks a ton to John [Human3rror] for the diversion…and for the free stuff! ☆

WordPress is just too cool

WordPress is the bomb.

Add in and iPhone or iPod touch and this free little plugin I just installed called, “WPtouch iPhone Theme,” and you’ve got yourself a very slick little combo.

Check it out… Just visit unMediocre from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Very slick indeed.

Good Grief… I’m a blog failure.

I like blogging. A lot. I really enjoy writing. Quite honestly, it’s an investment in my own future to be able to remember what I did in life when I get too old to remember. It’s kind of a journalling outlet for me.

But lately I’ve been slacking off.

Well, maybe not slacking off. But I just haven’t had enough margin in my life to sit down and do the things that I truly enjoy. It’s pretty frustrating. But I’m in the midst of one of the busiest, most demanding moments of my life.

My wife is 5 months pregnant with our third child. We’re writing a massive Christmas production together (the scale of an episode of Saturday Night Live). I’m producing said show. And my boss just started his month-long sabbatical today. So tack on some freelance projects that I do to be able to pay Annette for feeding, teaching, and caring for my children, and margin is scarce.

Here’s to hoping things mellow out occasionally so I can hear the quiet.

…and now, back to our regular programming.

I’ve been disconblogulated the last few weeks. Time to get back on the horse. Standby for an actual post…

My Wife Is Better Than Me

It’s true. I’ll admit it. I’m the one who nudged Annette to start blogging a few months ago. I even came up with the name and built the thing. But now she blogs like crazy while I am lucky to get in two posts a week. I have people coming up to me at random places saying, “I absolutely LOVE reading your wife’s blog! She’s so hilarious! She should be a writer…or a stand up comic!”

Sounds good to me. Maybe she’ll hit the big time and I can quit my job and start playing golf.

She’s good. I concede.

The proof: check out More Lucy Than June.

Well, now I’ve gotta say something.

Thanks to Brian’s new blog, MY blog has been been getting some heavier than normal traffic. Sweet!

But now I guess I have to start actually writing stuff worth reading.

This would be a good point for me to remind myself of the reasons I blog…

  1. To think outloud. Sometimes my head just works more clearly if I put my thoughts in writing. It helps me make decisions, and helps me firm up what I believe and what my priorities should be.
  2. To share what I’m learning. Most of what I believe has been shaped by what I’ve read (or what authors have read TO me…gotta love a good audiobook). So maybe some of the ideas I’ve come across that stir me up will get your mind going as well.
  3. To remember. My kids do funny things. My life is an adventure. And I’m going to get old and forgetful. I want to have a place to record and process the good times, the bad times, and everything in between. That way when I’m an old man and can’t remember what I had for breakfast, I’ll at least be able to recall the moments that shaped me.
  4. To teach. I’m not a teacher by trade, but teaching is one of my spiritual gifts and callings in life. Right now, my expertise is in the area of service programming, design, and a few other oddball things. So while I’m wearing that hat, I figure I’ll pass along some trade secrets that help me and my team pull off what we pull off.

That being said, I’d still love to hear what makes you want to read more. Yes, it’s my blog and I can do what I want with it. But I sure as heck don’t want to be writing a bunch of stuff that no one’s going to read. Wasting time doesn’t fit well with my life goals.

New blogging pals!

Two of my dear friends (one is my boss, one is a coworker) have jumped on the blog-train… Check them out!
