I blinked…

My Bou

My Bou

…and then my baby girl turned 1.

Today is Caia Christianne’s 1st birthday. She’s my little “turkey leg.” (I call her that because she was so tiny when she was born that she looked like one of those ‘flavor enhanced’ Fred Flintsstone turkey legs at Disney World.)

Our girls are blessed/cursed with multiple nicknames. We also call her Caiabou (and in turn Bou [pronounced 'boo,' but spelled Bou because it came from Caiabou which came from caribou], Bou Bou), Peanut, Little Squirt, Bou Hinkle, The Small One…

She is a precious creature. It still hurts me that the first few months of her life were so tough for her. But on the other end of it all, she came out the joyful princess we always knew she was.

God, bless this child with courage, grace, confidence, patience, passion, and a heart that is unsatisfied with a mediocre pursuit of You.

Happy birthday, Bou.

A Chill Weekend…

If you read this post a couple of weeks ago, you’ll be happy to know the Parris fam has finally had a couple of days of relaxation.

My Life Is Never a Bore

So it’s a few months ahead of schedule, but I reckon God knows what’s up with that. We’re having another baby!

[nervous laughter]

Yes, it’s true. Don’t know for sure, but we think #3 will be due sometime around late January. Should find out soon… First doc visit this Friday.

My shopping list:

bigger house
bigger car
more caffeine
nanny
several days at a 5-star resort
vasectomy

OK… So maybe not the last one. We’ll see how this one turns out first.

If your feelings are hurt that this is how you’re hearing about it, I’m very very sorry. Third time around, I think we just got lazy. :-/

Daddy/Daughter Day: REI Grand-Opening in Kennesaw and a Band-Aid

rei-opening.jpg

So I had to buy a pair of Chacos for my buddy Jon’s wedding this weekend. (We groomsmen are wearing snappy brown suits and Chacos.) Luck would have it that the new REI in Kennesaw was opening today…and REI members got 25% off a purchase…and I had $13 in member dividends…and they were giving away good stuff to the first few hundred people through the doors. Sooooo, to give Annette a little bit of a pressure relief for the morning, I took Kenni along for the ride.

Woke her up early, and stuck her in the truck. She was very excited to go to Chick-fil-A for some chicken minis, and then to “the tent store.”

I expected a couple of hundred folks to be waiting. But holy smoke… It was as crazy as an Apple Store opening. There were many hundreds in line… All the way past Ulta, Shoe Carnival, Old Navy, and the entire width of Target. Continue Reading…

Kenni Hears a Horton: The Best $5 I Ever Spent

Yesterday Kenni pooped in the potty, so Mommy promised her a Horton stuffed animal. Kohl’s has them “exclusively, for a limited time only.” But when they got to Kohl’s, poor Kenni was told they were sold out. So Mom called around. Kohl’s in Acworth had plenty. So we planned a family trip.

With the sun this morning, Kenni was up and by our bed. She hadn’t forgotten. “It’s today. The sun came up. Mommy, can we go to a different Kohl’s and get a fluffy blue Horton?” It was an irresistible request. We got dressed, hopped into the car.

“Where are we going, Daddy?”

Sick day… [warning - graphic]

20080313-123004-1

So Caia [almost 8mo] started throwing up Wed afternoon. No biggie, right? I mean, she’s an infant with severe gastro-esophioial reflux. What else is new.

But then at 10-something, we find Kenni [she's 3] asleep in a pool of her own mess.

My gut tells me it’s contagious. [-:

Then, 3am, while dealing with a spell from one of the tots [don't remember which one at this point]… ANNETTE: “I’ve got to get to the bathroom.”

&%#*@

So I’m the lone soldier. Good thing I had already taken a PTO for today…to help clean the house…for my brother’s surprise birthday party…that he had to find out about so we could reschedule…but apparently he’s busy every night from now until his NEXT birthday.
Maybe I can eat the 100% from-scratch chocolate cake that my wife baked before the bug unleashes its torment on me. At least it would taste good coming up.

The Sunny Side: laying on the bed with a tiny princess who just can’t seem to settle down until she finds that perfect spot for her head… Daddy’s chest. Beautiful redemption.
