Mucho Chaos

The last 8 days in a nutshell… This is long and high drama. Sorry… But it might make you feel better about YOUR week.

Saturday:

  • Kenni throws a humiliating fit as we leave a birthday party. (was that voicemail from DFACS?)
  • At mother’s day dinner, Caia screams like a pterodactyl every 9 seconds. Happy Mother’s Day, my love!

Sunday:

  • Would be 45 minute drive to visit the grandmoms takes 2 hours. Caia screams the entire way…literally. [Teething]
  • Kenni tells Annette what we got her for mother’s day…before we give it to her.

Monday:

  • Emergency gas leak inspection at home. Gas company won’t even let us answer our phone in the house. Nice. (I won’t tell you how long we’d been smelling the gas.)
  • After the girls drive Annette to a near breakdown while I’m at work, we manage to sneak in a late night milkshake date. (Leave the house at 10pm. Feel young again.) Thanks, Terri!

Tuesday:

  • Annette calls during staff meeting…car won’t start. Cancel lunch appointment to drive home. Jumpstart. She has made me a sandwich.

Wednesday:

  • Set painter calls: fabric isn’t drying because of the rain. Can’t transport. Reschedule delivery for next day.
  • Annette’s car won’t start…again. Time for a new battery.
  • SCORE! Land 12 rooms at Intercontinental Buckhead (VERY chic) for staff retreat at a RIDICULOUSLY low rate using Priceline. [I'll have to share that in another post.]

Thursday:

  • Attend meeting that I showed up at last week not knowing it had been rescheduled.
  • Set painter delivers backdrop. Fabric is too big, logo too small. I undercommunicated and wasted her time. She’s moving this weekend…can’t paint replacement. Call in another painter. He can do it. But not by tonight’s worship service.
  • Journey Group cancelled.
  • Kenni wakes up Caia by crying for a lost penguin toy. Bedtime procedure: RESET.
  • While getting ready to watch The Office finale, Annette spills boiling water on her hand.

Friday:

  • Try to jumpstart Annette’s car… Doesn’t work. Forced to replace battery NOW. Makes me very late to my first consulting appointment of the day.
  • Drive all over Cobb County for consulting appointments. Drive to 2nd appointment…realize I left my computer at 1st appointment.
  • Arrange a sitter so Annette and I can check out “Prince Caspian” on the big screen. Good move. Nice night out. Thanks, Lynn!
  • During movie, my Audio Assistant calls me to let me know our ProTools hard drive is missing from the recording rig. We had both seen it the evening before. Call Campus Support at 11:45pm to report possible theft.

Saturday:

  • First Saturday at home in what feels like years.
  • Run up to the church to see the new backdrop. Looks fantastic.
  • Get all the way home, and realize that I’ve forgotten my computer…again. Might be a good thing.
  • Keep meaning to cut the grass… Interruptions all day until dinnertime. Go out to pull out lawn mower… It’s buried. Commence to cleaning out garage. Get sawdust in my eye. Finally unearth mower. 30 minutes of daylight left. It won’t start. Call my dad. He says it sounds like a bad spark plug.
  • Watch Globetrekkers with Annette and enjoy our new favorite nightly treat…hot tea.

Sunday-Here’s the icing on the cake:

  • Text at 5:15am: dear friends are on their way to hospital to have their baby.
  • Alarm at 5:40am.
  • Text at 5:50am: Tandy (singer) has pink eye… can’t open her eyes.
  • Text at 6:??am: Stage Manager blacked out while getting ready… can’t drive.
  • Arrive on campus. Video team is frantic: missing video adapter, and someone had powered down every individual component in the video suite. Nice prank…if you’re 12. Find adapter in another theater.
  • Audio issue… Audio techs all have to miss tech meeting. That’s always helpful.
  • Missing hard drive still hasn’t shown up.
  • First service goes WAY over. We only have 15 scheduled minutes between 1st and 2nd service this morning…Now it’s less than 10.
  • Second service: call from Annette. I can’t answer. I text her to see if she’s ok. She texts back: Caia has pulled the ironing board down. Iron hits her on head and back. She’s napping. Annette is on concussion watch.
  • Simultaneously, I’m walking outside to go back to the green room from the atrium. I see someone frantic on the sidewalk. LONG story short… She’s having a severe asthma attack and is literally drowning. We apply oxygen… Her tank is empty. She passes out, falls out of car. We find more oxygen in the building. She is in and out of consciousness. Thank goodness for Dr. Carl S. being on campus at the time. He gets her stable until paramedics arrive. She’s off safe to get some help. [Pray for P. M.]
  • Lunch with brother and friends.
  • Target to get formula for Caia (just 2 more weeks, then we convert to milk. Praises! It’s like getting a raise.)
  • Text at 3pm: It’s a boy!
  • Back to church to pick up Annette’s car. Why does it stink inside? Oh! Because Stephen not only loaded the bags of borrowed baby clothes into Annette’s trunk… He ALSO loaded a bag of TRASH! Geez.
  • To Wal-Mart for spark plug for mower. They’re out. To AutoZone. Yay.
  • Home to change plug.
  • I don’t have the right tool. Back to AutoZone. Not so yay.
  • Back home. Quick dinner. Replace plug… That was it. Cranks like a charm. Cut grass. But I had waited so long that now it looks dead again.
  • But I beat the rain.
