I won’t lie… The last few days have been a little discouraging. Some financial realities have been on the forefront of my mind. And last night I got wind of a situation that really shook me…maybe more than it should have. But it did nonetheless.
And then today happened.
1. Met with the principal at the school we’ve been praying about renting for our worship services at River Church. We kept waiting the hear the “but” or the “no, we can’t do that.” Never heard it. Contract in hand, ready for ink. Amazing facility, amazing price. Extraordinary relationship with the school…already. Glory to God.
2. Spent the afternoon with the River Church staff enduring some tedious training. But loved every minute of it. Why on earth do I deserve to be a part of this team? Glory to God.
3. Straight to meet Annette and the kids at Chick-fil-A for a quick bite before our River Church Core Team meeting. Ran into our latest additions to the Core Team…the Miller family, AND realized it was kids-eat-free night. Glory to God.
4. Right after dinner, our very confident-about-herself but bashful-about-prayer 4-year-old said, “We really need a minivan. We should pray and ask Jesus for a minivan.” This is the kid who has refused to join us in saying the blessing at dinner for the last 8 months. She then says, “Where should we pray.” Anywhere, sweetheart. We can talk to Jesus anywhere, anytime. “OK. Let me get in my praying place.” She climbs onto the booth, kneels, clasps her hands, postures her elbows on the table, closes her eyes. Annette starts to pray. “No, Mommy. Let me. I know what to say.” Again, she DOES NOT do that. “God, would you please give us a minivan? [pause] In Jesus name, Amen.” Glory to God.
5. Core Team Meeting. Ah. Ma. Zing. Five new adults with a total of 3 kids between them. Represents daughter #12 and #13 under the age of 9 in our Core Team. And son #3. Things are looking up for my boy, Jack. Moving time in Scripture. Candice passed out free tickets to the Leeland concert here in town next month. Great talk with my boy Chris McGill. Stunned by what’s happening with this amazing team…now 50 adults strong. Glory to God.
6. Come home to talk about the day with a wife I don’t deserve. Glory to God.
7. My bud Vince Garrett texts me to ask if I want him to call to let me hear some of the U2 concert in Atlanta that he knows very well that I would love to be at. He calls as the first encore begins. I get to hear One Love, Amazing Grace, and the beginning of Where the Streets Have No Name. I had to hang up at that point. Maybe I was just poised for a spiritual moment, but it was so moving and truly turned my focus so much on God that I could barely contain it. Glory to God.
8. Not thirty seconds later I talk get a message that I need to call one of my best friends in the world. He tells me that after months and months of trying, he and his deserving wife are expecting their first baby. Of all the people on the Earth who should be raising kids, these two are the most qualified. Glor. Y. To. God.
