ALL GLORY

how great is your love
it never gives up on me
stronger than shame
it carries me back to you

jesus, my redeemer
you have made a way

all glory to God who is able
all power and praise
forever the earth will proclaim
you are mighty
you are mighty

so great is your love
it keeps all it’s promises
unshakeable eternity
rests in your hands

jesus, i surrender
lead me in your ways

lift him higher
he is mighty
lift him higher
he is God

Almost nine (9) years ago, Annette put this ring on my finger at a little church in Kennesaw, GA.

It’s rare that someone tells me “I like your shirt”, or “…hair”, or “…kicks”. But it’s literally at least once a day that someone says, “I love your ring! What does it say?”

Well, since you asked, it’s a piece of Ruth 1:16.

כִּי אֶל־אֲשֶׁר תֵּלְכִי אֵלֵךְ

It reminds me that Annette said that she’d go wherever I go.

For better or worse.

If only they could meet the woman behind the ring.

She’s a rock. Too many days, she thinks she’s so weak and/or that she’s failing.

But she isn’t.

At all.

She is an all-star, and she has my heart completely.

Stan is a friend of a one of the guys in our band at River Church.

Two years ago, on Palm Sunday, he stood up out of his wheelchair to find that his legs worked again. Doctors had told him his disease would continue to weaken him, but there he was…able to walk after all. (that’s a long story made short, btw)

I wonder if you are living a crippled life unnecessarily. Maybe there’s a fear in your gut that you can’t shake. It’s a disabling fear that really has no business ruling your mind.

Maybe you think you’re not ready to lead well, so you sit on your vision waiting for “the right time” or the perfect conditions to pursue it.

Maybe you’re afraid that if you don’t control over your life, someone will blow it for you.

Maybe you think you’ll never get ahead financially, so you spend every penny you have on junk you don’t really need or experiences you can’t really afford for fear that it’s now or never, rather than asking someone who is good with money to help you get a handle on your financial world.

Maybe you think it’s wiser to let issues in your life “blow over” than to confront them head on so that healthy growth can flourish with a little pruning and tough work.

Maybe you are afraid your spouse will lose faith in you if you really own up to your mistakes.

Maybe you’re convinced that if you dive into this “Jesus thing” too deeply, you’ll lose friends, respect, or your favorite “pastimes”.

99 times out of 100 our fears are a waste of our time, which means, in turn, that they’re a waste of perfectly good life.

You may just need to get up out of your wheelchair and try to walk for once. Quit blaming others, God, or even yourself for whatever has crippled you. Get off your keister and make a go of it.

“One day, God will free me from this. As soon as I have the right ____________, things will turn around.”

Well, maybe so.

But maybe you’re just chicken.

Stan wasn’t chicken. He heard God say, “Stand up”. And he did.

We all have faith. Just trying to stand up beside our bed in the morning is an act of faith; we assume that our legs won’t fold under us as we rise to our feet.

But many things in life require much more faith… Finances, careers, choosing a spouse, having children, giving generously. Belief–or disbelief–in God.

So it’s a given that we HAVE faith that can be used as a guide to our steps. But for those of us who struggle with using our faith with “the big stuff,” can we be trained to stretch our faith? Is it like a muscle that grows stronger with exercise and resistance? Could a mentor who is gifted in the area of living by faith “coach” us to expand our faith?

Not one of those “I hate my job. Is it 5 o’clock yet?” days.

But one of those “I can’t wait to hug my wife and wrestle with my kids” days.

Yeah. Today was one of those days for me.

No matter how cruddy the day…or the week…or the month has been, there’s something about my family that makes the stifling noise of anxiety dissolve in an instant.

Our house is loud. The 5pm-8pm dinner-bath-homework-bed routine is a contact sport. Zone defense. Option offense…blindfolded.

But it’s good. It’s just plain good.
